Charles H. Nugent, Jr., Esquire with co-counsel, was recently successful in obtaining a settlement of $250,000.00 for a client in a high profile case alleging violations of the New Jersey Law Against Discrimination.
The case of McLoughlin v. Colingswood Board of Education, et al, was filed in the Superior Court, Camden County, New Jersey. The Nugent Law client, Joseph McLoughlin, the winningest boys basketball coach in Collingswood school history, alleged that his contract to coach the high school boys basketball team was not renewed because he refused to use race as a factor in deciding who to play, objected to the use of racial slurs in referring to minorities, and supported minority student athletes who tried to qualify to play. The lawsuit was aggressively defended, and despite the denials of school officials, the defendants agreed to pay the settlement as the case was scheduled to go to trial.
